The first milestone in the promotion of the 1991 World Ski Championships would be laid during the presidential conference in March 1985.

The ÖSV, together with Saalbach Hinterglemm, decided to found the “Candidatur Saalbach Hinterglemm” association.

On June 11, 1988 the time had come - Saalbach Hinterglemm was awarded the 1991 World Ski Championships in the first round of voting in Istanbul.

The joy was great. Nobody dared to think about what a successful World Cup the region would have in store.

Athletes from 39 nations all over the world started from 22/01 - 03/02/1991 at the Kohlmais and the Zwölferkogel.

Petra Kronberger lived up to her favorite role and captured gold in the downhill.

Double world champion Stephan Eberharter triumphed in both the Super-G and the combination, thus making him the "big winner.

Under the motto "World Ski Championships without pomp - but with heart" we look back on a sustainable event with short distances.
